Product managers at Red Gate don't wear suits. They aren't PowerPoint jockeys either. They come up with, and validate, new tools and features, ones that improve our ingeniously simple software and make our customers even more awesome at what they do.
Our product managers have at least one foot firmly planted in software development, and at least a toe or two stuck into our commercial strategy. How they got there isn't important - excellent potential is just as valuable as formal commercial experience.
Right now, we're looking for three people: one for our SQL Tools division, one for our .NET division, and one for our DBA Tools division, to work closely with the development team, the marketing team, and other product managers.
The .NET role needs someone with the technical expertise to join a dedicated team working on a market-leading product with a very large number of users. It needs someone with a passion for .NET development, someone who'll drive innovation, and someone who can conduct the research and validation that will shape the product's future.
Both SQL and DBA Tools need someone to work on several of our most popular SQL Server products. Again, they'll drive innovation and conduct research into future development, but we aren't necessarily looking for specific experience in the SQL/DBA domain, though it would help.
What makes you a Red Gate product manager?
You've got in-depth knowledge of technologies, market trends, and competitors in either the .NET development or SQL Server world, or a serious desire to keep up-to-date with developments there.
You have a powerful blend of technical and commercial expertise, irrespective of how you achieved it.
You're particularly interested in the commercial aspects of software.
Your communication and consensus-building skills are first-rate, and you have strong, creative problem-solving skills too.
You're experienced in visiting and talking to customers.
You've got the enthusiasm to act as a technical evangelist for your products, internally and externally.
You have a strong strategic vision for your products, coupled with the intuition and insight to spot tactical issues that need your involvement.
You're confident presenting an informal business case to management.
What experience do you have?
For the SQL Tools role, direct experience of product management is required, ideally in a software development organisation.
For the .NET role, a strong technical background with development/coding experience, ideally in .NET using Microsoft Visual Studio.
What would really help?
A 2:1 or better from a good university.
What's the package?
All those lovely Red Gate perks.
You'll work about 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with flexible work time.
Salary is negotiable, depending on experience.
